The Devil: A Movie Review

Have you ever walked into a movie theater and left feeling like you just wasted two hours of your life? Well, that’s exactly how I felt after watching “The Devil”. This supernatural horror film directed by John Erick Dowdle was released in 2010, and let me tell you, it was a total disaster.

The Storyline

The Devil on Wikipedia

The storyline follows five strangers who find themselves trapped in an elevator. As they begin to realize that one of them is the devil incarnate, they start turning on each other while trying to figure out who the devil really is. Sounds interesting, right? Wrong. The plot was weak and predictable with no real surprises or twists.

The Casts

Cast of The Devil

Chris Messina plays Detective Bowden, the main character investigating the murders happening in the elevator. Logan Marshall-Green, Geoffrey Arend, Bojana Novakovic and Jenny O’Hara are among the actors who played the five strangers stuck in the elevator with him. Sadly, their performances were as unremarkable as their characters.

The Dialogue

Dialogue from The Devil

Let’s talk about the dialogue for a moment. It was cheesy and unimaginative. I found myself rolling my eyes at some of the lines that were supposed to be “spooky”. The attempts at being philosophical or profound were also laughable.

The Special Effects

Special Effects in The Devil

The special effects were mediocre at best. The scenes where the devil reveals itself were far from scary and looked like something out of a low-budget B-movie.

The Soundtrack

Soundtrack of The Devil

Although the soundtrack was decent, it failed to create any real suspense or tension. It felt as if they simply picked tracks from a generic horror movie music library.

My Evaluation

Sad Face Meme

All in all, “The Devil” was a forgettable movie that failed to deliver on all fronts. There was nothing new or exciting about it; instead, it relied on tired tropes and clichés that we’ve seen countless times before. I wouldn’t recommend this movie to anyone unless you’re looking for something to put you to sleep.

My Opinion

Meh Meme

To be honest, “The Devil” was a movie that didn’t really make me feel much. I wasn’t scared, I wasn’t thrilled, I wasn’t even bored – I was just apathetic. It’s as if the movie never existed in the first place.

The Gossip

Gossip Girl Meme

There weren’t any juicy gossips surrounding the film or its cast. Perhaps because no one really cared about it? Even M. Night Shyamalan who produced the film distanced himself from it and never promoted it.

The Popularity

Popularity Meme

Unsurprisingly, “The Devil” was a commercial flop that failed to earn back its $10 million budget. It received negative reviews from both critics and audiences alike and currently holds a 23% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The History

History Meme

There isn’t much history to “The Devil”. It’s simply another forgettable horror movie that adds nothing new or interesting to the genre.

The Plot

The Devil Plot

The plot of “The Devil” is straightforward and generic. It’s a movie that follows the typical horror movie formula of putting a group of people in a confined space while they’re being hunted by an unstoppable evil force.

The Acting and Characters

Characters in The Devil

The acting was unremarkable, and so were the characters. Each character was reduced to their most basic archetype – the asshole, the drunk, the old woman, etc. There was zero character development or personality, making it hard for audiences to empathize or care about what happened to them.

The Cinematography

Cinematography Meme

The cinematography was nothing special either. It felt as if the filmmakers were going for a gritty realism but failed miserably at it. The lighting and color grading made everything look dull and lifeless.

The Score

Homer Simpson Eating Donut Meme

The score was decent, but like the rest of the movie, it failed to deliver anything memorable or impactful.

The Analysis

Analysis Meme

There really isn’t much to analyze with “The Devil”. It’s a shallow and poorly executed horror movie that doesn’t offer anything new or interesting.

The Production

Fail Meme

The production value of “The Devil” was subpar, to say the least. It’s as if they were trying to make a low-budget horror movie but failed to realize that they needed to put some effort into it.

The Criticism

Criticism Meme

“The Devil” received criticism from both critics and audiences alike. Many people felt that it was a lazy and uninspired horror movie that relied too much on cheap scares and clichés.

The Scenes

Scenes from The Devil

Even the supposedly “scary” scenes were poorly executed. They felt rushed and lacked any real tension or suspense. It was as if the filmmakers were relying solely on jump scares to try and scare their audience.

The Quote

Horror Movie Quote Meme

There really isn’t a standout quote from “The Devil”. Most of the dialogue was forgettable, and there weren’t any memorable one-liners or catchphrases.

The Fact

Fact Meme

Here’s a fun fact: “The Devil” was actually based on a story by M. Night Shyamalan. However, he didn’t direct the movie and distanced himself from it after its release.

The Editing

Bad Editing Meme

The editing in “The Devil” was choppy and disjointed. It felt as if the movie was pieced together at the last minute with no real thought or care put into it.

The Sarcastic Take

Overall, “The Devil” was a masterpiece of awfulness. It’s as if they set out to make a bad horror movie and succeeded beyond their wildest dreams. I highly recommend this movie to anyone looking for an hour and a half of pure mediocrity.

The Conclusion

In conclusion, “The Devil” is a movie that I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. It’s a forgettable horror film that offers nothing new or interesting. Save yourself the trouble and skip it altogether.
