The Explosive Action in “Double Team”
“Double Team” is a 1997 action-thriller movie that starred Jean-Claude Van Damme, Dennis Rodman, and Mickey Rourke. It was directed by the acclaimed Hong Kong director, Tsui Hark. If you ask me, this movie is one of the most explosive action flicks I have ever seen.
The Plot of “Double Team”
The movie follows the story of Jack Quinn (Jean-Claude Van Damme), who is a former counter-terrorist agent. He retired from service after a mission gone wrong that left his wife dead. However, Quinn is forced to come out of retirement when he learns that his arch-nemesis Stavros (Mickey Rourke) has reappeared and plans to kidnap his pregnant wife.
Quinn must team up with an eccentric arms dealer named Yaz (Dennis Rodman) to save his wife and stop Stavros from unleashing a deadly virus on the world.
The Action Scenes in “Double Team”
The action scenes in “Double Team” are absolutely breathtaking. From high-octane car chases to explosive gunfights, the movie keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout its runtime.
One of my favorite scenes is when Quinn and Yaz escape from an underwater prison by using a rocket-powered surfboard. The scene is so over-the-top and ridiculous that it’s impossible not to love it.
The Cast of “Double Team”
Jean-Claude Van Damme’s performance as Jack Quinn is solid, as usual. He brings his trademark martial arts skills to the table and delivers some bone-crunching fight scenes. Dennis Rodman, in his acting debut, plays Yaz and provides some much-needed comic relief throughout the movie.
Mickey Rourke’s portrayal of Stavros is menacing and chilling. He single-handedly elevates the movie from a cheesy action flick to a thrilling crime drama.
The Soundtrack of “Double Team”
The soundtrack of “Double Team” is comprised mostly of hard-hitting rock music that fits the tone of the movie perfectly. One standout track is “The Power” by Snap!, which plays during one of the film’s most explosive action scenes.
My Opinion on “Double Team”
Overall, I loved “Double Team”. The movie has everything you could want in an action flick – thrilling action scenes, a compelling plot, and a talented cast. However, it’s not a perfect movie. The dialogue can be cheesy at times, and some of the special effects haven’t aged well.
Despite its flaws, “Double Team” is still a movie that I would recommend to any fan of the action genre. It’s a movie that doesn’t take itself too seriously and is all the better for it.
