Getting Baked with Hansel and Gretel
So, I recently watched this movie called “Hansel and Gretel Get Baked”. Yeah, you read that right. It’s not about two kids who get lost in the forest and encounter a witch. Nope. This time around, the siblings are all grown up and they’re trying to rescue their friend who got kidnapped by a ruthless drug dealer.
The plot may sound weird but trust me, it’s weirder than you think. As the title implies, there’s a lot of weed involved in this story. In fact, the whole plot revolves around a strain of marijuana called “Black Forest”. Apparently, it’s so good that people who smoke it never return.
The Casts
The movie stars Molly C. Quinn as Gretel, Michael Welch as Hansel, Lara Flynn Boyle as the evil drug queen-pin and Reynaldo Gallegos as her loyal henchman. I have to say that the acting was decent considering how ridiculous the script was.
There were a few moments when I found myself cringing because of some of the dialogue but for the most part, the actors did what they could with what they had.
The cinematography and special effects
The movie was shot in Los Angeles and it showed. There were some pretty cool shots of the cityscape and the skyline. However, there were also some scenes that were poorly lit or poorly framed.
As for the special effects, well, let’s just say that they weren’t very special. At one point, Gretel gets high and sees some weird hallucinations but they looked like something a student with a budget of $5 would come up with.
The Soundtrack
The music in this movie was okay. Nothing really stood out to me but it wasn’t terrible either. The best song in my opinion was “Black Forest Blues” by The Vandals which played during the end credits.
The Evaluation
So, here’s the thing. “Hansel and Gretel Get Baked” is not a good movie. It’s not even a decent movie. It’s a bad movie. However, it’s also a movie that knows it’s bad and doesn’t take itself too seriously.
It’s the kind of movie you watch with your friends while eating pizza and making fun of the dialogue. It’s the kind of movie you watch when you’re really bored and have nothing else to do. It’s not a masterpiece but it’s entertaining in its own bizarre way.
The Final Verdict
If you’re looking for a serious, thought-provoking film, then “Hansel and Gretel Get Baked” is not for you. However, if you’re in the mood for a silly, ridiculous movie that doesn’t take itself seriously, then give it a try.
I can’t promise that you’ll love it but I can guarantee that it will leave an impression on you. Whether that impression is good or bad is up to you to decide.
